Biocarbon has won an environmental prizePreseco Ltd. has won a 2nd prize in the national competition of the European Business Awards for the Environment. The nomination was given for Preseco´s Biocarbon solution. Biocarbon is a renewable energy source substituting the use of fossil coal. The award ceremony was held in Helsinki on the 25th of November. Finnish Environmental minister Ms. Paula Lehtomäki presented the awards to the winners. Member of the Board of Preseco Ltd., Mr. Mikko Kantero is excited about the nomination. “This tells us that we have done the right decision in starting to develop economically solid solutions for substituting fossil fuels.´ Biocarbon can substitute fossile coal in energy production Biocarbon is an emissions-neutral biofuel made out of different types of organic waste material. Biocarbon can be used in traditional coal power plants without any modifications or new investments in power plant technology. Residual biomass can be brought to market by converting it to Biocarbon and can be utilized efficiently in existing power plants while reducing CO2 emissions.
The European Business Awards for the Environment The European Business Awards for the Environment recognize and promote today´s pioneers in green innovation. The bi-annual awards were established by the European Commission Environment Directorate-General in 1987 to identify and reward European companies that set an example by combining innovation, economic viability and environmental concern. The jury for the Finnish National European Business Awards for the Environment competition 2009 has selected the winners for 4 categories. The Finnish winners and runners up will participate in the European competition organized by the European Commission, for which the award ceremony will take place in Brussels in June 2010. |
