SLUDGE TREATMENT

Filter belt press

A filter belt press is suitable for all kinds of sludge, although it is most commonly used for the treatment of condensed sludge in a biological refinery. The filter belt press is efficient, and energy- and space-saving. In terms of capital and running costs, the filter belt press offers the most economic way of drying sludge. The system consists of two parts: a rotary drum thickener and a filter belt press.

The principle of the equipment is that the sludge is pumped into the drum thickener where, due to polyelectrolyte solution, the sludge flocculates. In the drum thickener, part of the water is removed and the sludge flow discharging onto the filter belt is balanced. An even sludge load optimises the process and the capacity of pressing.

Water removal continues on the filter belts, which are controlled automatically by pneumatic adjustment of the compression force. The pressure gradually increases as the sludge flows from the free discharge zone to the compression zone. Both the upper and lower filter belts have their own drive rollers, which enhances the operational reliability of the press.

Splashing and odour nuisance is eliminated. Because of the closed construction, the steam generated in the machine during drying is led straight to the exhaust system. However, the covers of the belt press can be opened, if necessary, which means that all parts of the system are easily accessible. Due to the automatic pre- and post-washing of the drum, filter belt and lower collector tray,  minimal cleaning and maintenance is needed.

Drum thickener

The drum thickener is used when the amount of sludge is small or when its drying does not require pressing, or when the dried matter percentage demand is not very high. The device's construction is simple and reliable.
